Hip Hop 9/11 contains material so controversial that Addek was forced offstage by show organizers to prevent offending the city’s mayor. The politically charged classic Critikal Timez was the culprit, a usual crowd favorite. Addek returns with a new EP titled REDSHIFT inspired by a collection of events including the pandemic, the unrest after the murder of George Floyd, and the Vick 30/30 on ESPN which was the inspiration for Run To The River track which was written in 2019. The cover was inspired by the Australian Bush Fires of 2019 and the apocalyptic images of people escaping into the ocean. Eight years after Addek’s solo debut the same issues plague our society with even more urgency. How Do You Know is another track written in 2019 which speaks directly to this. On the lighter side of the EP is dotted with intermission instrumentals, What If explores alternative simulations, and Da Infamous is a track where Addek explores interpersonal wordplay.
